Description of project:
A 3 day think-tank involving 35 younger senior officials from government financial institutions such as departments or ministries of treasury and finance, central banks and regulatory agencies from the APEC member economies, who had been identified as people who are likely to play a significant future leadership role in their respective economies and institutions. The Think-Tank program will focussed on networking, problem -solving and the development of fresh creative solutions for priority regional economic and financial challenges, with some enjoyable social events.

Objectives:

• To assist in the development of a multilateral approach to common themes in relation to financial markets in the region
• To contribute to the development of creative and practical solutions and policies on regional financial issues by the brightest younger minds of the region
• To identify future issues and develop joint approaches to dealing with difficulties
• To foster closer collaboration across economies and the region as a whole on key financial and monetary issues
• The major theme of the Think-Tank was the advent of the new economy and the issues and challenges it raises for the APEC member economies, including corporate and economic governance.

Services provided:
Overall Project Management including, Think-tank concept and thematic development, design and delivery; moderation of think-tank discussion; identification of participants and invitation process administration; logistics management including travel and accommodation; securing of senior business figures as speakers and commentators; coordination of outcomes paper (Strategy Paper to APEC Finance Ministers Meeting Suzhou PRC September 2001); evaluation of inaugural think-tank model and redesign for 2002.
